Q&A with Ms. Catalano, Associate Director of Content & Storytelling

What is your role at RCDS?

“I actually joined RCDS as the Associate Director of Content & Storytelling within the Marketing & Communications (MarComm) department! I’ve loved writing for as long as I can remember. I could always write something better than I could say it! So much so, that I went on to study Media, Communication, and Public Relations in college. I feel really lucky that I now get to use that love of writing to tell the stories of the people and community here at RCDS.”

What drew you to RCDS?

“My sister is a former Wildcat—she taught in the Lower School. She always shared such amazing stories about the community here and how special it was. I was really drawn to how much people genuinely care about one another and how close-knit the community feels. Who wouldn’t want to be part of a place like that?”

What’s something interesting about your background or journey to becoming a teacher?

“I can share a little about my journey to becoming a communications professional instead! Something I’ve always found interesting is that I attended writing workshops at Manhattanville College, right here in Purchase, when I was in middle school. Years later, I ended up going back to Manhattanville as a college student and earning my degree there. It feels very full circle—and maybe like I was always meant to end up in this field!”

What do you like to do outside of school?

“I love to cook, try new restaurants, and spend time with the people I love most. To me, life is all about gathering around the table with the people you love over an amazing meal. Cooking is also one of the only things that gets me to fully unplug. I love finding random ingredients in the kitchen and figuring out how to turn them into something special!”

What’s a fun fact most people don’t know about you?

“Most people probably don’t see my goofy side right away—I’m actually quite a goofball!”

Is there a book, quote, or person who’s influenced you the most?

“A quote that has influenced me the most actually came from my dad. Whenever I was going through something difficult, he would tell me, ‘If you’re not uncomfortable, you’re not growing. You need to get uncomfortable to get comfortable.’ It has always stuck with me and reminds me that some of the best growth happens when you’re willing to push yourself outside of what feels familiar.”

What are you most looking forward to this year?

“I’m most looking forward to getting to know more of the RCDS community and uncovering all of the stories that make this place so special. One of my favorite parts of working in communications is getting to talk to people, learn what they’re passionate about, and find ways to share those stories with others. There is so much happening here every day, and I’m excited to help bring more of those stories to life!”
