As Spring arrives, the Rye Country Day School Boys’ Varsity Tennis Team is geared up for an exciting season. Led by captains Lincoln Feng “26 and Darren Wong “26, the boys have their sights set on the FAA championship.
After many intense practices instructed by coach Tim Shea, the team felt prepared and excited for their season opener against Masters School. On March 31st, the team had their first match at the indoor tennis courts at RCDS. Emphasizing his high expectations for the season, Wong said, “I expect the team to be close knit and work well together on and off the court. I think the talent on the team is stronger than ever. During this match, as a team, we did a great job and it was exciting to see young players step up and compete hard.”
Alex Lowham ‘‘30, an exciting young talent, is the only eighth grader on the Boys’ Varsity Tennis team. Playing against Masters, Lowham was able to win his first ever high school tennis match. Reflecting on his experience with the team so far, Lowham said, “I have had so much fun practicing and competing with them. I can’t wait for a fun season.”
The entire team is excited for their upcoming matches, especially against the defending boys’’ tennis FAA champions, Greenwich Country Day, and against Horace Mann on Spring Wildcat Weekend. When asked about the upcoming schedule, Wong stated, “I think we have a great team this year that is able to compete for an FAA title. If we work hard during practice and compete well during matches, success will follow.”
