As the RCDS community returns to campus from their two-week March break, many individuals tell their stories of adventure and relaxation from their time off.
Ms. Previti, Upper School English teacher, reflects on a milestone she completed over break: learning to rollerskate. When she wasn’t practicing rollerskating, she was relaxing by watching TV. The Pitt, a series where the emergency room meets Pennsylvania, left Ms. Previti in awe, stating that “it’s the best.” She also watched the thriller How to Get to Heaven from Belfast, and while she wouldn’t recommend it to students, she enjoyed it.
Mr. Hirsch, Upper School Biology teacher, talks about his experience on the Pacific Coast of Mexico. Scuba diving among whales, Mr. Hirsch explains how he saw stingrays and a pufferfish nursery, with fish of all different colors and sizes. He states that he is a “big diver” and “love[s] doing it.” Diving 100 feet underwater, he had the opportunity to hug sea lions. Mr. Hirsch even explained the difference between swimming with dolphins and interacting with sea lions. Sea lions are like lazy dogs who enjoy being trained and rewarded with fish, while dolphins, trapped in pens for the enjoyment of tourists, can lead to their eventual depression. When Mr. Hirsch wasn’t interacting with sea life, he was exploring quaint Mexican towns. “I love Mexico. It’s such an amazing country filled with cool people, good food, and amazing cities,” Mr. Hirsch adds.
Sahana Bhat ‘29 experienced break through the eyes of a volleyball player. Attending the two-day AAU Spring Kickoff Tournament with her team from Greenwich Volleyball Club as the starting setter was a “great start to Spring Break because it set a high standard for the rest of my break.” Her team made it to the Gold Bracket on the final day but lost in the semi-finals. Regardless, Bhat mentions that her team played extremely hard and that “it was the best I’ve ever seen them play.” When Bhat wasn’t scoring points on the court, she was home watching the sci-fi thriller show Dark Matter. “I would absolutely recommend it,” Bhat states, ranking the show 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Having enjoyed the spring break thoroughly, all interviewees had minimal regrets. When asked about them, Ms. Previti answers that apart from wanting to have graded more, she had zero other wishes. “I live my life to the fullest,” she states. Mr. Hirsch presents a similar response, stating how he had a wonderful break with zero regrets. On the other hand, Bhat wishes she had watched more shows from the list she has, which is constantly evolving.
Finally, all interviewees were asked a final question about break: how would you describe your break in one word? Their responses are as follows:
Peaceful.
Abundant.
Intrepid.
