Boy’s Varsity Baseball Aims for FAA Championship

By Eva Juarez-Lace

Moving into the spring season, Rye Country Day School Boys’ Varsity Baseball Team is stepping onto the field with determination and focus. Building on last season, the team is intent on advancing further and competing for the FAA championship.

Early practices have concentrated on preparation and situational awareness for games, by replicating game-like conditions. Jackson Koslow ‘26, one of the team captains, stated, “Our main focus has been putting ourselves in different situations so that we feel prepared come game time.” This conscious approach lets the players grow their confidence in games and teaches them to be adaptable in demanding moments.

Off the field, part of the team’s success is credited to team bonding. “Our team connects away from practices and games with dinners and by hanging out outside of school,” Koslow mentioned. Strong connections between players allow for strong communication on the field, which is vital in baseball.

The team’s connection has carried over to the field, where trust between players continues to develop. Along with improvements in team chemistry, the team has made major advancements in its overall performance. Junior Brady Hollwedel ‘27 shared, “I think the biggest improvement has been how much better our coaches take care of our arms, especially for me and the other pitchers.” He continues, “Our throwing routine is also way more organized now to get us on the right track for games during the week.” This heightened focus on player development and health helps the team remain consistent and perform at a high level.

Along with their game preparation and team bonding, the team has developed a clear goal for this season. The team is striving to go one step further than last year and win the FAA championship. This goal guides their focus and intensity in practice and games.

The team’s dedication and effort have already started to show in early games. One of the most noteworthy moments of the season thus far was from a remarkable 15–6 win over the King School. Koslow emphasized this game as a team highlight, expressing how the team displayed some of its best performances. He noted how the players started to hit with the consistency they are capable of.

The team is centered on building on this momentum. With valuable preparation, growing connections, and a concrete objective in mind, the RCDS Baseball Team is determined to play at a high level and continue to develop their skills as the season progresses.
