Dribbling for Success

By Emma Wolff and Chloe Berg

Despite an overall rough season, the Boys’ Varsity Basketball team has been able to look at the positives. With a 2-15 record and many injuries, the team had a rough start; however, injuries opened spots for younger players to step up and make an impact. Graham Condron ‘29 and Will Atkinson ‘30 have both been valuable assets this season, with the latter averaging 16 points a game. Guard James Wallach ‘27 said, “You can tell that the effort is there. We have the necessary skills, we’re just working on the execution.” Despite the arduous path of their season thus far, the boys team chooses to be optimistic. Wallach and team analyst Zachary Berg ‘27 both used the team’s game against Horace Mann as an example of the team’s spirit. That game featured an unprecedented triple overtime ending in a narrow, thrilling RCDS win. The position of a team analyst, occupied by Berg, is a new and exciting addition to the team. Berg collects data from the games and advises the coaching staff on how to utilize it in order to create better opportunities. While Berg’s analysis has not yet been put to use, players are excited to see the results it promises, and Berg says the results of these analyses will be put into effect soon. At the end of the day, Wallach emphasizes what’s most important: “We’re all having a good time.” Going forward, the team aims to carry this optimism and bring consistent effort to their game for the remainder of the season.
