As the winter season ramps up, the RCDS Boys Varsity Hockey team continues to build momentum in hopes of clinching a playoff spot. The boys have fought their way to a 6-5-1 record through hard work and dedication on and off the rink.
The team has a remarkable 77-46 goal differential, showing their ability to blow out teams and maintain the intensity once they take the lead. The team also shares strong chemistry, allowing them to be in sync during crucial moments. Captain Paul Heintz ‘27 emphasized this when noting, “There is no other team I would rather represent. This team brings lots of energy, passion, and character, and being a captain has been loads of fun.” Deven Yokuty ‘29 added, “The team has been extremely inviting, and the environment at practice is incredible.” The team’s chemistry undoubtedly contributes to their success.
Both Yokuty and Heintz discussed the rocky start to the year and viewed their 6-2 victory over Portledge as a turning point. “We pounced on their bus legs…we showed our true colors and battled to take a commanding lead and win the game,” Heintz stated. The team hasn’t lost since and is surging toward a potential top-2 seed in the FAA playoffs.
When asked who motivates and delivers when they’re needed most, Heintz pointed to the goalies Dimitris Goneos ‘26 and Cole Haft Abromovitch ‘28, Richie Morrow ‘26, and Jacob Tucznio ‘27. “All of these guys have shown heart and stepped up with big goals throughout the season.” Heintz is also excited to see young players such as Yokuty and Hudson Parameswaran ‘28 progress, expressing that “Every game they get better and better, and there is no doubt they will play a major role in upcoming years.”
Looking ahead, the team hopes to secure a high seed in the FAA playoffs, and the team is very confident they will do so.
