The RCDS Wrestling team has been accomplishing amazing work so far this season. This year, the team, led by captains Joe Rafferty ‘26 and Harry Moss ‘26, has had multiple successful meets against competing schools. There are a total of 10 members on the team.
To start their winter season, the team has participated in six meets, and they have had great results. James Greear ‘29 says that the most memorable meet they’ve had this year was in December against Fordham Prep. RCDS won 47-30 that day, and all but one person won their match. Greear explains, “We have been doing pretty good, we have a lot of good wrestlers, but we have trouble filling the light and heavyweight classes.” Moss adds, “This has been a rough season because we have a small team, so we forfeit a lot of weight classes, but what’s remarkable about the team when I compare it to past years, everyone works super hard and is very talented.”
In describing their typical wrestling practices, Greear explains that they start with stretching and take down drills, followed by practicing technique and learning new moves, conditioning, and sometimes use the weight room.
The wrestling team has many more meets ahead, including their notable FAA League Tournament in late January and NYSAIS tournament in early February. Good luck to the wrestlers in the remainder of their season!
