Indoor Track

Unsurprisingly, Rye Country Day School’s Varsity Indoor Track team has had an amazing start to the winter season. After their first few meets, girls varsity captain, Payton Richardson ‘28, has said that RCDS has been successful at pretty much all of them. Alongside Richardson, the other girls varsity captain is Jocelyn Rice ‘27. As for the boys varsity team, the captains consist of Michael Allen ‘27, Harry Holtman ‘26, and Marshall Brown ‘28.

When asked how the girls team is doing this year, Richardson claimed, “I think it’s going pretty well. The girls have a lot of new runners, so that is good to introduce new people to track.”  As for the boys’ team, Richardson explained that they have lots of returning upperclassmen, so they continue to have a strong team. Brown says, “Everyone is doing well, we have had PRs across the board, everyone is working hard together and there is a great spirit amongst the team.”

Richardson explained that a typical varsity indoor track practice starts with sprints, followed by the weight room and conditioning, and then practicing strides. Continuing their season, Richardson described her excitement for their upcoming meets, including the NYSAIS Championship hosted at the Armory in New York City in late February and New Balance Nationals hosted in Boston in early to mid March. Richardson plans to run the 55 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 300 meter dash, 400 meter dash, and relays.
