Heating Up the Hockey Rink

Although the hockey rink might be cold, the Rye Country Day School Girls Varsity Hockey team has been heating up their recent season. Their current record is 6-2-1 as of January 8th. In their most exciting game to date, the Wildcat women were able to win over Portledge High School for the first time in six years in a heated 3-2 game. Captain Olivia Bongiorni ‘27, reflects how  this specific win came due to the team’s confidence. “We didn’t doubt ourselves,” said Bongiorni. “We went in with a very strong mentality that we had a chase to beat them, and I think that’s what did it.” This team’s attitude seems to be their strongest attribute, noted Bongiorni. “We’re such a tight knit team,” Bongiorni gushed, and “we really communicate well [both on and off the ice].”

With such an audacious start, it is no surprise that the girls hockey team has set their expectations for the season high. When asked about what she was most excited for in the coming season, Bonginori answered confidently it was their playoffs for the championship, as she believes they’re “going to be a good match with all the teams.” With their amazing record, determination, and strong team connection, it appears that  the hockey team may outperform all other players in their upcoming playoff games, which will begin in February. However, as these girls compete in their regular season, there is no doubt that they will play each game with the same fierceness they’re excited to show in their playoffs.
