The Boys’ Varsity Basketball team has been steadily improving over the course of the season, showing increased confidence on the court.
Led by captains Lucius Liu ‘26 and Henry Kosann ‘27, the team has placed a large emphasis on working together and translating their connectedness into stronger performances during games. “We’ve just been working towards fostering a sense of team camaraderie in practice and working towards turning that into wins and just being together as a unit,” Liu shared.
The team has faced a demanding game schedule to kick off the season, with tough matchups against Columbia Prep, Hopkins, Avenues School and GCDS so far resulting in losses.
While the start of the season did not unfold exactly as the team had hoped, progress has become increasingly noticeable. “Not the start that we wanted but we’re starting to look better both in practice and in games,” Liu explained, adding that the team will “continue to work and trust in the coaching staff to get the best for us.” That improvement has already begun to show, as seen in their first game after winter break under the guidance of Coaches Jones, Lawrence, and Sells.
Following a tough 102-66 loss against Earl Monroe High School, a highlight of the season came with a close 74-73 home victory against Horace Mann on January 7, which shows all the work that the Boys’ Varsity Basketball team has been putting in during practice.
As the team looks ahead to February, they remain focused on carrying momentum forward while continuing to improve. One notable game to watch is the upcoming home game against Hopkins on January 30, which Liu described as “a very good game and very winnable for us.”
