Celebrating Wildcat Weekend

Written By: Camila Reyna

Wildcat Weekend took place this year on Friday, October 17 and Saturday, October 18, and included many fun and spirited activities. Leading up to this exciting weekend, students in Lower, Middle, and Upper School are invited to participate in Spirit Week. During Spirit Week, which is organized by the Spirit Representatives, students dress up every day of the week according to a theme. This week, the themes are Tuesday–Odds and Evens, where odd numbered grades (9th & 11th) wear black and even numbered (10th & 12th) grades wear white; Wednesday–Jersey Day; Thursday–Dress to Impress; Friday–Blue and Gold Day. Friday is also the Middle and Upper School Pep Rally, where students in the Middle and Upper School were invited to participate in games.

Kicking off the weekend festivities on Saturday morning was the Fun Run, an event where  volunteers ran on East Campus. In addition, participants were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to help conclude the school-wide Can-Do Food Drive benefitting the Carver Center Food Pantry. After the Fun Run was the Fall Fair, during which clubs hosted various booths and visitors were encouraged to participate in their activities in exchange for tickets. Upper School Dean of Students Mr. Kyle explains that “the purpose of the Fall Fair—which is very much a part of Wildcat Weekend—is to celebrate our community, have an energetic and fun event at the school that involves pretty much everyone here.” The Fall Fair uniquely involves all the younger members of the school community, their families, and alumni. For Upper School students, participating in the Fall Fair is a great way to “both contribute to the spirit of the weekend and also do some fundraising for the clubs and organizations.” When asked about how he would describe the energy during the Fall Fair, Mr Kyle said, “From noon to two, it’s pretty much full speed ahead” and “Lower School student energy is a force to be reckoned with.”

One of the highlights of Wildcat Weekend is the varsity sports games that take place. On Saturday, October 18, Boys’ Varsity Soccer, Girls’ Varsity Soccer, Varsity Field Hockey, Varsity Volleyball, and Varsity Football will be playing. Clare Keating ‘26, one of the Upper School Spirit Representatives, explained that “the games on Wildcat Weekend are a great way to bring attention to each of the sports teams” and described that “the added element of music playing adds to the overall excitement for each game.” Keating also explains that her favorite part of Wildcat Weekend is “playing in my field hockey game but also when most of the games are over and all the fans, athletes, and students head over to the football game to support the team.” The music is still playing and the energy is high so it’s such a fun time and something I always look forward to.” Val He ‘27, who attended last year’s football game, stated, “I felt more energized while it was happening, and there were a lot more people than usual at a school game. Everyone was cheering very loudly and had lots of energy for a Saturday morning that was kind of contagious…It was a great game.”

On Friday, October 17th the Alumni Association hosted their Alumni Hall of Fame dinner, as well as the Class of 2020 Make-Up Prom. The following evening was the Golden Alumni 50th reunion as well as the reunion cocktail reception.

Our wildcats had a marvelous time at Wildcat Weekend, and next year’s Wildcat Weekend will be just as great!
