New Year on the Block

Last weekend, on Sunday, September 14th, the annual RCDS Block Party took place. It is a joyful and exciting event, full of music, laughter, and energy, that brings the entire RCDS community together to celebrate the start of school.

Acting as a launching point for another exciting year, it welcomes both new and returning families for an afternoon filled with food, activities, and RCDS spirit. For families, it is the first formal event to reconnect with people from all grade levels to share summer memories and amp up energy before the next school year. In addition, it enables new families to get to know other members from the community.

The families were welcomed by music, which helped create a joyful atmosphere, with RCDS junior Chaim Sciamma as the DJ. Food was provided, letting people choose from a wide variety of options, ranging from Walter’s Hotdogs and pizza to popcorn and Longford’s ice cream. Tables enabled parents to sit and talk with friends while kids visited the many activities stations available, ranging from arts and crafts to games, allowing every kid to relax and have fun.

Younger kids could decorate mini pumpkins and were excited to bring their creations home. In addition, they could create wildcats headbands, further adding RCDS spirit to the event, or build and explore with the lego and toy car bins provided.

Other students could play games on the field, such as gaga, cornhole and soccer, which enabled students to boost their energy level and helped encourage camaraderie and competitive spirits. In addition, families were able to purchase Wildcat merch, further contributing to the spirit of the event. The clothing allowed students to replenish their athletic attire before the start of the school year.

By the end of the event, families left with a smile on their faces, ready to face the upcoming year. With an afternoon full of joy, excitement and community building, they were reminded of the key RCDS values.

The Back to School Block Party plays a central role in strengthening the RCDS community allowing families to bond and reconnect after a long summer. Parents can share memories, thoughts and advice on the new year while watching their kids play with their friends and thrive in the RCDS environment. It brings the entire community together for a great event, allowing students to replenish energy and strength before Monday classes start again!
