Energy is high coming off the NYSAIS Championship last season and with current wins stacking up as the RCDS Girls Varsity Lacrosse team makes a bold statement: they’re here to win. The Spring Training trip to Clearwater, Florida, a perfect mix of bonding and building, helped the team build chemistry through shared challenges and activities, whether it was beachside ice cream runs or competitive matchups against unfamiliar Massachusetts teams. “We faced teams better than we usually play in the NYSAIS league, and it pushed us to elevate our game early on,” said Captain Clare Keating ‘26.
The team’s preparation is clearly paying off, as they have been undefeated at 8-0 and have been dominating almost all games by ten goals. With five players named to the Elite 11 (Maya Torgalkar ‘27, Elle Mason ‘27, Sarah Anderson ‘27, Bailey Donovan ‘27, and Keating) and the team earning a LoHud’s Top 9, there’s no denying the RCDS dominance this season. Coming into the season, the team’s unity and culture are stronger than ever. “We have a great mix of experience, and younger players are stepping up, ready to carry this team forward when the seniors graduate,” says Captain Sydney Cohn ‘25.
The competition level will now start to pick up for the season’s final weeks, and the girls recently beat Holy Child, their only loss last season, with a score of 12-10. Looking ahead, key matchups against Sacred Heart and Greenwich Academy will test the team and keep them focused as the postseason approaches. With chemistry, confidence, and a perfect record, the Girls Varsity Lacrosse team isn’t just aiming for success; they’re making it clear who’s in control this season.
