Of the many opportunities offered to the students of Rye Country Day School during the winter season, none are as theatrical as the upcoming school musical. With lyrics taken from 80s rock group The Go-Gos, Head Over Heels, our winter musical, is shaking up to be one for the ages. Based on the play The Countess of Pembroke’s Arcadia by 16th-century author Sir Philip Sidney, an English poet, and scholar, the story revolves around a royal family’s journey to protect the “Beat” that controls their country, ultimately finding a piece of themselves along the way. 

When asked about the show, Lily Leand ‘27, the Assistant Director, exclaimed, “I’m really excited for the fun energy this musical brings, and I hope everyone enjoys it.” With all the actors in their roles, the musical’s rehearsals are well on their way, much to the excitement of both cast and crew. “Ms. Marcell is locking down the music [and] Mr. Hogan has got some big plans,” said Chaim Sciamma ‘27, playing the role of Dametas. Other cast members feel a deep pride in putting together this performance for Rye Country Day especially. “This musical is really great for Rye Country Day because there are a lot of diverse characters in it,” said Vreeland Tuncer ‘26, playing the role of Queen Gynecia, “Which is really great for [our school] to see. The cast and crew, deep into their rehearsal process, feel a sense of joy in putting together something like this. “The most fulfilling part is being able to see everything come together and create one incredible piece,” explained Leand. With such a unique premise and such a talented set of performers, this musical will surely be an unforgettable experience. Performances will be held on February 21 and 22 in the PAC Auditorium at 7:00 pm. Be sure to come on down and experience the “beat” that makes up this great show!
