RCDS Wrestlers Ready for the Mat

Written by Sophia Maldonado

The RCDS wrestling team is looking forward to their upcoming FAA and NYSAIS tournaments as three of their players have qualified for the Westchester County Championships on January 25, one of them being Kenji Clark ‘29, one of the four new eighth graders on the team. Their practices have been filled with hard work and diligence as their team focuses on bettering their technique for future matches. Their season started off strong with a win against The Dalton School and Stony Brook School. Though some of their matches in between may have ended in defeat, such as their match against Hopkins and Greenwich Country Day School, they were able to win exciting matches against Martin Luther School during a quad meet at Horace Mann. In the course of their tri-match on January 15, they came out victorious against The Lexington School for the Deaf

In the upcoming weeks, the wrestling team has a jam-packed schedule, with numerous meets and challenging tournaments lined up. This includes two tri-matches and three championships, adding to their already full lineup of events. Captain Harry Moss ‘26 seems to think the team is prepared to tackle the sheer number of events head-on. He stated, “Our league matches are coming to a close, and what we’re left with is a couple of big tournaments that will give our people a chance to really do well for themselves” Varsity starter Brayan Escalante ‘28 is looking forward to the tournaments ahead, and he reflected, “I believe that I can say on behalf of the team that we are excited for our upcoming challenges such as NYSAIS. We’ve put our 100% into practices and matches and going forward are expecting constant improvement.” The wrestling players are hopeful and with tournaments quickly approaching, we may have new FAA and NYSAIS champions here at RCDS.
