CROP decided to do a special interview segment with a few of the Varsity Football Captains, Blake James ‘25 (LB/OL), Colin Lauri ‘25 (QB), Zander Stempel ‘25 (DE/OL), and Chris Emmet ‘25 (RB/DB). All have been playing football in their respective positions since they were five years old.
CROP: Is there a coach or athlete that you look up to as a role model?
Lauri: LeBron James?
Stempel: Does he have to play football?
Lauri: What about Zach Wilson, bro?
Emmet: No, just LeBron.
James: I look up to Jalen Hurts.
Lauri: LeBron for all of us.
CROP: What animal would you describe yourself as–
James: A cheetah.
Lauri: Get out of here, a cheetah?
Stempel: I’m a dog!
James: Tiger. I’ll take lion or tiger.
Stempel: I’m a dog!
CROP: Uh, okay. Colin, is it your goal to play in the NFL?
Stempel: Why’s this question only for him?
Lauri: Yes… maybe…? If the opportunity arises!
CROP: Zander, what’s your training schedule like?
Stempel: 5:30. Wake up. I hit the-
Lauri: Go back to bed.
Stempel: I hit the gym. 10:30 I go back to sleep. 12:30 I show up at school. Wait, what’s a training schedule?
CROP: Next question. Do you have a special routine or superstition you follow before a game?
Lauri: Playing the same songs over and over again.
Emmet: Open the Gate. Playing by Zach Bryan. It’s a remix on SoundCloud.
Lauri: Open the Gate by Zach Bryan in the locker room over and over again.
Emmet: The remix on SoundCloud!
CROP: Blake, are you more of a hunter or a gatherer?
Lauri: I’m definitely a gatherer.
CROP: Yeah okay, Blake?
James: I don’t like vegetables very much so I’d say hunter.
CROP: Colin, how do you feel knowing all eyes are on you as the new QB1 after last year’s win in the MIFL championship?
Lauri: I want that. In everything I do, I want the spotlight.
Emmet: He relishes in the spotlight.
Lauri: I dare everyone to—- no don’t say that part. Say I relish the spotlight. I want that.
CROP: Alright-
Lauri: I WANT IT!
CROP: Okay, thank you for that. What’s your favorite part about being on the football team?
Stempel: The community. That’s a wholesome answer.
James: Uh, the food. No actually can I take that out? The brotherhood.
