Varsity Football has had a rough start so far, losing 22-9 against Hopkins, 34-14 versus King, 32-22 to Poly Prep, and 15-14 against Pingry. Despite these rocky games, key players have stood out: Captains Chris Emmet ‘25 and Amir Hogans ‘26 have both reached the end zone 3 and 2 times respectively, and Captain Colin Lauri ‘25 has thrown for 450 yards.
But despite these standouts, the team has hit another roadblock: injuries. Half of the senior players have been sidelined as a result of injury. These include two captains, Blake James and Dylan Massucci, and three other players: Cooper Tumm, Daniel Madden, and Aedan Pearl. Consequently, the team has needed players to step into new roles: Mikey Pedone ‘25 as a left guard and outside linebacker, Milin Torgalkar ‘26 as a left tackle and defensive end, and Jonah Zeiden ‘27 as a linebacker.
With this, the captains are looking to the future where they hope to see these players shine in these new positions. Captain Lauri is excited for the upcoming Dalton game on October 19th because it is a chance to gain momentum heading into the playoffs in order “to prove [they] are a force to be reckoned with, undeterred by their injuries.” With this pivotal game ahead, the team is focused on bouncing back and putting a win on the scoreboard.
