Multiple clubs were approved last year by the past STUGO and are meeting for the first time this year. Here’s some information about new RCDS clubs!
Film Club, which is led by Jane Wang and Alexa Chua (for animation), and Amanda Gui and Lily Leand (for film), will hold meetings where attendees will watch and analyze films, as well as study film production techniques. Students will also be able to find a community of people interested in the film industry that can assist in the production of films. If students create a film, they can talk with the club leaders to ask questions or seek advice.
Art Journal Club, led by Juliette Moore, will provide a space for RCDS students to publish their artwork through showcasing it in a magazine, which will be made available to the Upper School community. During meetings, students will discuss a theme and create art for the magazine. Members can include past artwork in the magazine if they wish!
Literary Society, led by Alexandra Steyn and Elaine Fong, will discuss shorter forms of literature, such as memoirs and short stories. Club members will volunteer at local organizations to lead discussions to middle schoolers about literature. The Literary Society may also provide students the opportunity to watch book-to-movie adaptations in the event of a collaboration with the film club.
Government Policies Club, led by Luke Werwaiss and Aiden Wu, will discuss different types of governments and the implementation of those governments throughout history, as well as the positives and negatives of each type of government. The goal of this club is to hold educational discussions about politics.
Advanced Performance Training Club, which is led by Noah Zugman and Harrison Millan, provides a space where students can learn how to be their best, both physically and mentally, through weightlifting. Meetings will be focused on creating workouts for each member, as well as other aspects of healthy living. Any weightlifting level is welcome, and members will support each other in their weightlifting journey.
How-To Club, led by Luke Weirwaiss and Miles Wolf, will teach students useful life skills that may not be normally taught in school, such as how to change a tire or pick a lock. A goal of this club is to help underprivileged children learn useful life skills.
