Field Hockey Phenomenons

Written by Tara McIntosh

After winning their 5th consecutive NYSAIS Championship last year, the Girls Varsity Field Hockey team is more determined than ever to carry on the RCDS legacy at the upcoming end of season tournament. Senior Captains Natalia Kochut ‘24 and Grace Allen ‘24 hope to lead the team to victory, and have already established their leadership based on the teams results so far this season. Field hockey is 7-4-0, showing a similar trajectory to last year, where they ended at 13-5-0.

Varsity Field Hockey Head Coach Georgette Summers has been working with the field hockey players for 23 years and believes “this team is strong, cohesive, and talented with a competitive spirit.” According to Summers, “The team played the best game of the season against Sacred Heart.  Our level of play was higher and more consistent than any game this season. The team set a new bar and standard of play.” Despite the challenge of losing the graduating class of ‘23, the current team is a group of “strong, talented field hockey players who believe they can work together to win the NYSAIS tournament.”

The NYSAIS tournament will start on October 30th, with the championship game at Manhattanville college this year. RCDS hopes to stamp a 6th consecutive championship win into the records, and we can’t wait to watch the team succeed.
