If it is raining, chances are, there is a football game. That is how the majority of this football season has gone for the Wildcats. However, despite the unfortunate weather, the Football team stands first overall in The Metropolitan Independent Football League (MIFL) conference, with a 5-2 record.
To obtain this impressive seeding in the MIFL conference, the Wildcats, led by Captains Trey Stevens ‘24, Barrett Pennington ‘24, Cole Denson ‘24, Nick Vlasto ‘24, and Luca Strazzini ‘24, secured an impressive win against the Pingry School, who previously stood first overall in the MIFL league. After a hard fought game, the RCDS Wildcats beat the Pingry Big Blues by two points, with the final score reading 26-24 and took their spot in the league rankings.
Although 13 seniors of the 20 person team are leaving, Vlasto hopes that in the future, “the number of players on the team continue to grow and kids continue to keep playing. Recently, we have a lot of low numbers and it is hard to be successful with that. I hope younger students at RCDS come out and at least try football, as it is an amazing culture. Also, I hope that the team continues to have success. The past two seasons have been extremely successful and it is great to build on that especially with a younger generation of players coming up.” In the meantime, the Wildcats are eager to bring a championship home.
