Julia Marrinan & Isabel Slippen–
To the RCDS Community:
In the past four years, the Rye Crop has taken on many different forms of media: physical paper, digital copies, website pages, and even podcast. Despite the uncertainties and difficulties of online and hybrid school, our mission has remained the same: to publish the stories and opinions of the student body.
It has been our honor to restore the Rye Crop this year, with the first print issues since the beginning of 2020. Our work has shown us that with a resilient team of writers, editors, and faculty advisors, a student newspaper can do so much more than just report the news. Journalism is a powerful tool, whether an article sparks conversation about the academic values of our school or demonstrates just how powerful AI can be.
For the penultimate issue of Rye Crop’s 2022-2023 publications, we’ve created a special edition of satirical articles meant to make you laugh (and think a little bit, too). We hope what you’ve read from us these past years—whether you’ve been opening the paper solely for Crop confessions or you’ve read through two-page articles—has inspired you to speak out for what you believe in and to share your stories.
Your words are more powerful than you know.
Your senior Editors-in-Chief,
Julia Marrinan and Isabel Slippen
