Ava Herzog–
After a year without Wildcat Weekend, the RCDS community is looking forward to the return, this Saturday, October 23rd! Wildcat Weekend is one of the most spirited events at Rye Country Day, including the Fun Run, Fall Fair, and several Varsity Sports games, so make sure to stop by and cheer for the teams.
The Fun Run will begin at 11:30 AM, and the Fall Fair will run from 12:00 – 2:00 PM. Girls Varsity Soccer will play Millbrook at 1:00. At 2:00, Varsity Field Hockey will play against Hopkins and Boys Varsity Soccer against the French American School. Lastly, at 3:30, Varsity Football will play against Hackley.
Due to Covid, Wildcat Weekend will look slightly different this year, though just as fun as ever. Some important restrictions to be aware of are: the Fall Fair will take place outside in front of the Admissions Building, instead of in the Athletic Center, all attendees are required to adhere to the RCDS Covid policy, and the class reunions that typically take place during Wildcat Weekend will be moved to the Spring.
Many student-led clubs will be running carnival-like booths at the Fall Fair with fun activities for the younger students to participate in. In addition to the booths, many other games and activities are planned. There will be various food trucks outside after the Fall Fair. An outdoor pep rally hosted by the Athletic Department is scheduled the day before. Half-time games and entertainment are also currently in the works.
High attendance is to be expected for the Fall Fair and Varsity games, due to the absence of these events last year. All attendees are required to RSVP for the Fun Run and the Fall Fair.
The return of Wildcat Weekend this year is highly anticipated by the RCDS community. A day full of competition and good fun is exactly what the Wildcats need. Despite some of the changes made, attendees can expect its spirit to remain the same as always.
